Wright State University Women’s Track & Field team is headed to the All-Ohio Track & Field Championships. The event will be hosted by The University of Cincinnati, and held this weekend, Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15, 2017.
Before a big game or meet, every athlete has their own way to prepare for the event.
Kristen Sevier, Wright State junior, from Loveland, Ohio is committed to running, while maintaining a busy schedule as a nursing student.
“I manage my time by sticking myself in one place and getting my work done, then and there. I also bring my study stuff to the meet,” stated Sevier. “I prepare for big meets like this by working with my teammates. In a race, you have to find your right pace and confidence, so being able to simulate that in practice really helps me!”
“My favorite part about track is cheering everyone on in their own specialty and the excitement of each event,” stated Sevier.
Not only is it time for the State Championship, but the school semester at Wright State is coming to an end and finals are quickly approaching.
Jessica Swartz, Wright State junior, from London, Ohio enjoys running the 5k and her person record is 18:25.
"I prioritize what needs to get done first, and work ahead of schedule, to the best of my ability,” stated Swartz. Before races, “I get plenty of sleep, and water. I think about goal splits to keep my pace before the race, so I know what I want to be running,” added Swartz.
When asked what she likes best about Track & Field, Swartz replied, “Running with my all, my teammates, and being able to better myself as an athlete."
This hardworking group of girls is coached by Rick Williamson, Head Coach and Palngji Sunday, Assistant Coach.
