Community helping community is sure to help all involved and that’s exactly what happened when LuLaRoe consultants from all over the Dayton, Ohio area set up shop for a fundraiser in the Soin Medical Center. While taking a hit to their own profits, the consultants rallied together to benefit the Soin Scholarship Fund and Beavercreek’s Feed the Creek program.
Over $1,800 were raised by the “LuLaLovers,” the term for fans of the clothing brand, that spent 8 hours on Sunday, Jan. 22nd and Monday, Jan. 23rd searching through the thousands of unique pieces present.
“LuLaRoe is really big about fundraisers,” said the organizer of the event, Kaitlin Marshburn who has been a consultant for 4 months. “They want to give back. So, LuLaRoe actually matches all of our donations.” Both organizations benefiting from the event are focused on bettering the local area, which is fitting, as Marshburn says LuLaRoe is “[all] about community.”
Each year, Soin Medical Center’s Volunteer Advisory Board chooses a volunteering high school senior pursuing a career in the medical field to receive a $1,500 scholarship. And Feed the Creek provides food for 290 students in 10 Beavercreek schools that may not have food for the weekend, according to Beavercreek Nazarene’s Feed the Creek information page.
LuLaRoe is a direct sales company that sells predominantly women’s clothing through consultants on Facebook and in home parties, rather than brick and mortar stores. The company, which now boasts over 35,000 consultants according to Business Insider, has experienced a rapid rise in popularity in the last year thanks to the ease of online shopping and their signature “soft-as-butter” leggings. Those two things are exactly what drew Sarah Lira, a current Wright State University student.
“I heard about it on Facebook. A friend said she was interested in the event and I saw it and I was like ‘oh, I want to go!’” said Lira. “I only have leggings [because] they’re really soft and comfy. I’m looking for a black pair.”
